While investigating a hijacking case, detectives reveal that a young brother hijacked Tk 15 lakh from his elder sibling Mohammad Hossain in city’s Wari area, confirmed Deputy Commissioner of DB (East Division) Khandaker Nurunnabi while talking to Bangladesh Post on Thursday.
On June 25, a group of muggers mugged Tk 15 lakh from a businessman from city’s Tipu Sultan road. After investigation, Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police found involvement of Enamul Haque Rajon, younger brother of the hijacked businessman Hossain.
Talking to the Bangladesh Post, Additional Commissioner Jewel Rana (DB-East Division), who supervised the arrest drives and whole investigation, said, “A group of muggers in association with Rajon robbed the money from his brother Hossain when he, along with staff Babul Das, was returning to Dolaikhal after withdrawing Tk 15 lakh from Tipu Sultan road branch of Mercantile bank.”
Riding on two motorbikes, four muggers intercepted their way claiming themselves as DB personnel. Later on, they forcibly brought Hossain and Babul on their bikes. The mugger group stabbed Babul and took the bag where Tk 15 lakh was kept, sources said.
During the incident, the muggers were wearing DB jackets, and were also carrying handcuffs. A case was filed with the Wari Police Station. Immediately after the incident, DB started investigation on it and found direct involvement of Hossain’s own brother Rajon behind the mugging, said Assistant Commissioner (Wari Zone of DB East Division) Sikder Hasan Imam.
On July 8, DB arrested Rajon and during his primary interrogation, he admitted his involvement in the hijacking. According to his information, a team of DB led by AC Imam arrested Khoyam Parvej from Khilgaon and Jewel Miah from Bangshal, said ADC Jewel.
DB also seized Tk 1 lakh and 20 thousands from Rajon and another one lakh from Parvej. A motorbike which was used in the mugging, was also seized from Jewel.
Responding to a question, ADC Jewel Rana said, “We got the names of another three persons who were involved in mugging in guise of DB in different parts of the city. We are conducting drives to arrest them.” He, however, denied disclosing the names of the absconding three accused for the sake of the investigation.
According to the sources, Rajon, Parvej and Jewel gave their confession statement before a Dhaka Court on Wednesday.
In his statement, Jewel said that Rajon first called him over phone and requested him to snatch money from his brother Hossian.
During the mugging, Rajon was staying in city’s Badda area so that no one suspects him. After mugging, they went to the residence of one of his friends and they distributed the mugged money there among themselves.
Parvej also admitted that Rajon brought him to mug money from his own brother.
Rajon in his confessional statement said, “I engaged all in this mugging incident. I planned to hijack money from my elder brother in guise of DB personnel.”
AC Imam said, “The case was totally undetected. But through our investigation using technologies, we have identified all who were involved.”
“We had also scrutinized the CCTV footages where the muggers were identified,” the AC concluded.
