Nominations of both of the two candidates from Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) for Dhaka 1 constituency have been cancelled on Sunday, leaving the party without any candidate for the seat.
The nominees were BNP general secretary of Dhaka unit and also chairman of Khandaker Abu Ashfaq and lawmaker from reserved women’s seat Fahima Hossain Jubli.
As a precaution, BNP nominated more than one candidates for
most of the parliamentary seats fearing that nominee could be arrested by police at the eleventh hour of the election or the nomination can be cancelled by the Election Commission. But the party’s attempt got failed through the cancellations of both candidates. The EC, however, declared nominations of Awami League’s Salman F Rahman and independent candidate Salma Islam.
It has been learnt that four collected BNP nomination forms for this seat. But the party nominated Ashfaq and Jubli for the seat after interview.
