Decades after the Liberation war, the Indo-Bangla border pillars in Sylhet district have been re-inscribed as ‘Bangladesh’, where it was previously ‘PAK’, or ‘Pakistan’.
Under the initiative of BGB, inscription of a total of 136 pillars, under the BGB-52 area, were changed from November 16 to 22, said Lt Col Ahmed Yusuf Jamil, CO of BGB-52 battalion. 3 of these were main pillars, 53 sub pillars and 80 T-pillars.
Mentionable, the BGB DG has already directed all border area authorities to re-inscribe the names of pillars, changing ‘PAK’ or ‘Pakistan’ to ‘Bangladesh’.
M Kazi Emdadul Haque, deputy commissioner of Sylhet said, “We did the survey related to renaming the border pillars and BGB completed it.” He praised BGB for the job.
