The crack that developed inside front ranking leaders of BNP led Jatiya Oikyafront, is now spreading among the mid and grassroots level leaders across the country, sources said.
This may be mentioned that that LDP chief Col. (retd) Oli Ahmad, JSD leader ASM Rab and Kader Siddiqui tried to engage themselves with the ruling alliance but having been refused of their demand they returned to BNP. Because of their excessive demand BNP is also feeling embarrassed.
Earlier, the dispute and conflict griped the ranks and file of anti-Awami League alliance. As a result, the mid level leaders of Oikyafront are also getting involved in the election related grouping. In a latest development, some BNP leaders alleged that Oikyafront leader and Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna was trying to dominate over the internal issues of BNP. He is also instructing BNP leaders on several internal issues.
Party insiders said Manna has direct connection with BNP acting chairperson Tarique Zia who is in exile in London. In the name of Tarique Zia, Manna is pressuring some senior BNP leaders regarding some decisions.
Sources said Mahmudur Rahman Manna asked an influential standing committee member for mailing him BNP`s election manifesto. He put pressure on the leader referring the names of Tarique Zia. He claimed that he talked to Tarique Zia and he requested him to include and exclude some points in the election manifesto.
Getting the request, the standing committee members shared the issue with another standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy about Manna`s unexpected instruction. Gayeshwar became very angry and at one stage, he phoned Manna instantly. He told Manna to stay in his limit because he has a record of destroying parties earlier he was involved in. Gayeshwar further told him not to destroy BNP now.
He warned Manna not to try to interfere in the internal issues of BNP on any excuse. We (BNP) are doing well without you. So stay at your own position. You need not to give instruction to us, he warned.
Earlier after the fierce clash in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan office, disputes between BNP secretary general Mirza Fakrul Islam Alamgir and standing committee member Mirza Abbas, significantly increased. Both of them are accusing each other for the violence.
Supporters of Mirza Abbas alleged that police ‘conducted’ the incident in accordance with the instruction of Mirza Fakrul.

They argued that three cases were filed against BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas, who stands against taking part in the next polls. Two factions were working in BNP over the participation in the election. Among them, Mirza Abbas and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi are actually against the election keeping Khaleda Zia in jail. On the other hand, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Jamiruddin Sircar, Moudud Ahmad, and Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain were in favor of the election as part of the movement.
However, supporters of Mirza Fakrul Islam said Mirza Abbas was solely responsible for Nayapaltan’s violence. They said there were no incident and police themselves were also cooperating when the prospective candidates were collecting nomination forms. The programs were going on peacefully and in a festive mode. But when Mirza Abbas came along with a big procession in front of the party, the fierce violence erupted. Supporters of Mirza Abbas carried attack on police and set fire on police vehicles without any provocation.
Denying the allegation against Mirza Abbas, his supporters counter blamed Mirza Fakrul Islam that Mirza Fakrul wanted to keep Mirza Abbas away from the nomination process.
Mirza Abbas plays a vital role in finalizing BNP nominations for the city’s constituencies. But after he was accused in the cases filled with Nayapaltan violence, he is absconding. Police is hunting him to arrest. His supporters claimed Mirza Fakrul wanted this actually by staging Nayapaltan violence.
