The teenage girl who sustained burn injuries along with her sister after criminals attacked them with acid in Bhola Sadar upazila on May 14, died at CRP Hospital in capital’s Mirpur early on Sunday.
The deceased is Tanjim Akhter Mala, 16, daughter of Mohammad Helal of Uttar Digholdi in Sadar upazila. She and her sister Marzia, 8, sustained serious burn injuries when the miscreants poured acid on them while they were sleeping in the early morning on May 14.
They were taken to Bhola Sadar Hospital. As their condition deteriorated, they were referred to CRP Hospital on May 17 where Mala succumbed to her injuries.
Mala passed this year’s SSC examination from Abdul Mannan Secondary School and Marzia is a student of class 2 of another local school in Bhola.
Victims’ relatives said that the two sisters went to sleep after taking their dinner. Suddenly, family members got up hearing their screaming, as the miscreants thrown acid through the window, leaving the two sisters critically burned in the face, eyes and some others parts of the body.
It was alleged that stalker Rajib used to disturb Mala over cell phone for long, although she rejected his proposal of love. Rajib could have thrown acid on them.
Meanwhile, two other teenage girls- one after being crushed by a train while another after consuming poison- died in Atrai upazila in Naogaon.
The schoolgirl was crushed under the wheels of a train in the early hours. The deceased was identified as Afrin Sultana, 14, daughter of Angur Hossain and a student of class VII of Shahgola High School.
Locals said that Afrin was crushed under the wheels of the train around 2:00 am.
On information, police recovered the body. Officer-in-charge of Atrai Police Station Md Mobarak Hossain confirmed the matter. He said that police are investigating whether it was an accident or suicide.
On the other hand, a 16-year-old girl died after consuming poison at Chalk Singra Northpara of the upazila. The deceased was identified as Soraban Tahura, 16, daughter of Saidur Rahman.
The OC said that the body was sent to Noagaon Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
