Jahid was a follower of a group belongs to Jubo League leader Minnat. The group was a subordinate group of local ward councillor Saleh Ahmed Selim.
Local sources said Jahid was involved in a rivalry with the BCL activists and followers of Jakaria Mahmud group—Sumon, Chanchal, Niaz, Tuhin, Jubayer, Jikey and Rahat, following dispute over senior-junior.
Jahid and his companions were gossiping in front of Govt Tibbiya College at Upashahar area on Thursday night.
They sustained injuries while their rival BCL activists attacked them in front of the college.
They were sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital by the local people. On-duty doctors of the hospital declared Jahid dead.

Sylhet City Corporation’s councillor and Awami League leader Advocate Saleh Ahmed Selim said that the murder incident might have happened following previous rivalry among the boys of junior level.
However, residents of the deceased’s area—Tero Ratan and BCL activists staged agitation by blocking a road at the Upashahar point.
Several vehicles were reported to be vandalized. Police went to the spot to bring the situation under control.
Additional police were deployed in the area to keep the law and order to avert further untoward incident.
Two hours before the killing incident, Hussain Al Jahid on his Facebook wall posted ‘Death: Last Destination’.
