Didarul Islam Piton, 26, a businessman and son of Munshi Fazlul Haque of South Baira village of Nalgokot’s Dhalua Union in Comilla, was shot dead by robbers in his business establishment in Johannesburg, South Africa. The incident took place on Saturday afternoon.
Family sources said Didarul Islam had been in the grocery stores business in Johannesburg for the last four years along with his nephew. On Saturday, at around 3pm, a group of armed robbers attacked his business establishment. The gunmen looted cash and goods from the business. When Didarul Islam tried to resist the gunmen, they first stabbed him. He was then shot dead on the spot with a pistol aimed at his head. Earlier, in the previous 4 months, three other robbers took away cash and goods from his business.
The victim’s elder brother Mosharraf Hossain commented that due to these repeated robberies, Didarul Islam was fed up and was supposed to return to Bangladesh after withdrawing his business capital this December. He was supposed to do business with his other brothers in Dhaka and get married. But as it turned out, this was not to be. Expatriate Bangladeshis are arranging to send his dead body to the country.
