Bangladesh U23 team have lost their first match against United Arab Emi­rates (UAE) in ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2018.
At Southend Club Cricket Stadium in Karachi, The UAE team was all-out at 267 runs just before 50 over. Ashfaq Ahmed of UAE was the top batsman.
He missed the ton for only two runs, used only 93 balls. Ghulam Shabber was another batsman who stood out with a fifty. Rohan Mustafa and Shaiman Anwar scored 40 and 34 each.
The opening partnership was the basis of UAE score-building. The second and fourth partnership also contributed. Shoriful Islam of Bangladesh took four wickets for 55 runs and Khaled Ahmed took three for 61.
Chasing 268, Bangladesh never could stand their ground. They lost all wickets before 38 over at 170. Mizanur Rahman was top batsman with 43 runs. Shafiul Islam added 32 and Shoriful Islam added 31. Fourth highest score was Yasir Ali with 20.
The only successful resistant Bangladesh ever put was at ninth wicket partnership.
The top order was not that effective, but the middle order was the worst performing of all. Imran Haider was the most successful with 4 for 35. But Ahmed Raza was alos great as he took four wickets too but for 50 runs.
­Bangladesh U23 are in Group B and have Pakistan U23, UAE and Hong Kong as opponents. All the matches of the group will be played in Karachi.
The two teams qualifying for the second phase of the tournament will travel to Sri Lanka for their remaining respective matches of the tournament.
