Motivated Bangladesh U-18 national women’s football team take on their Nepalese counterpart in the title deciding match of the SAFF U-18 Women’s Championship scheduled to be held today (Sunday) at Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan.
The match kicks off at 7 pm after the third place deciding match
between India and Bhutan at 4 pm at the same venue.
The girls in red and green reached the final after beating hosts Bhutan 4-0 in the second semi-final at same venue on Friday. Sanjida Akter, Misrat Jahan Moushumi, Krishna Rani Sarker and Samsunnahar Sr. scored one goal each to help Bangladesh clinch a dominating victory. This was for the second time Bangladeshi girls defeated Bhutan in an age-group tournament in two months as Bangladesh thrashed the hosts 5-0 in the SAFF Under-15 Women’s Championship semi-finals in August at the same venue.
Bangladesh became group B champion after crushing Pakistan by 17-0 goals in their group opening match and also beating Nepal by 2-1 goals in their group second group B match.
In the other semi-final match, Nepal won against strong tournament favorites India by 3-1 in tie-breaker, after the slotted 90 minutes and extra 30 minutes ended in 1-1 stalemate. Young Tigresses have beaten Nepal once by 3-1 during the group phase. So they will look to replicate the same result and become champions of the tourney.
