Bangladesh National Awami Party (Bangladesh NAP) and different other socio-political organisations paid tributes to Shaheed Noor Hossain by placing wreaths at ‘Nur Hossain Chattar (square)’ in the capital on Saturday.
After placing wreaths, secretary general of Bangladesh NAP M Gulam Mostafa Bhuiyan said that the sacrifice of Shaheed Noor Hossain proves that the countrymen always want democracy. He called upon all to uphold the spirit of Shaheed Noor Hossain.
Vice-Chairman of the party Swapan Kumar Saha, organising secretary Md Kamal Bhuiyan, Dhaka city unit president Md Shahidunnabi Dablu and general secretary Principal Md Nazrul Islam Bhuiyan were also present, among others, at the time.
On November 10 in 1987, Nur Hossain gave self-sacrifice to fight against the autocratic ruler HM Ershad in the capital city. He imprinted his bare chest and back with slogan “Swairachar Nipat Jak, Gonotantra Mukti Pak” (down with autocracy, let democracy be freed) and was gunned down in police firing during an anti-autocracy demonstration in city’s Zero Point. This place was renamed after ‘Nur Hossain Chattar (square)’.
