US Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Bernicat speaks at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the International Business Forum of Bangladesh (IBFB), at BRAC Centre Inn in Dhaka on Wednesday. Outgoing IBFB president Hafizur Rahman Khan presided over the meeting.

Bangladesh is a good business partner of the United States of America. The USA is giving support to developing the business climate in Bangladesh and as part of it the USAID is working with NBR for the development of tax systems.
Marcia Bernicat, US Ambassador to Bangladesh made this observation at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the International Business Forum of Bangladesh (IBFB) at BRAC Centre Inn in Dhaka on Wednesday.
In her speech, US Ambassador mentioned that USA is the big market for Bangladeshi RMG products. A USA company is a single largest foreign investor in Bangladesh. This company trains the persons and transfers technology.
Dr. Khondoker Bazlul Haque, Supernumerary Professor, Department of International Business of Dhaka University mentioned that Bangladesh is now the member of Nuclear and satellite club. Bangladesh made remarkable development in different sectors, governments policy support made it possible.
Special guest Dr. Mojib Uddin Ahamed, Chairman Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB) mentioned that the government is giving policy support to the foreign investors.
In his speech IBFB president Hafizur Rahman Khan said, IBFB as a research and advocacy based non-political, non-partisan & non-profit nationwide business forum works with all stakeholders to create a business friendly environment in the country.
IBFB is dedicated to study the ever-changing trends of economies and identify important business challenges, conduct advocacy and pursue actionable recommendations to the policy makers to mitigate barriers for sustainable economic environment. Since inception, IBFB was also involved in developing and pursuing several policy guidelines to the Govt. for their effective incorporation in different public policies.
In the past, IBFB carried out several research and advocacy works on different important business and economic issues like One Stop Service Act, Shipbuilding Industry, Light Engineering Sector, Strong Public Financial Management, Complexities in Income Tax Laws & its simplification, City Governance & Private Sector Development, Industrial Credit & Improving Transparency of State-owned Commercial Banks, Overseas Investment by Bangladeshi Entrepreneurs etc, he added.
The IBFB chief further mentioned that USA is the largest single-country market for Bangladeshi ready-made garments and the single largest foreign investor in Bangladesh. “Our bilateral relationship is widespread in many areas such as gas, energy, food, safety & security etc. The Bangladeshi people gratefully appreciate the development supports from USA in various fields. To boost relationship further, we would like to see at least two separate U.S. Trade Centers in Dhaka and Chittagong. He requested the honorable U.S. Ambassador to take all necessary initiatives to establish U.S. trade centers in our country,” he added.
