Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote on Thursday arranged a discussion at the National Press Club in the city marking the 55th death anniversary of Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy.
Awami League’s Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud spoke at the discussion as the chief guest. Awami League’s city unit leader Shahe Alam Murad, Arun Sarker Rana of Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote and other leaders of the platform spoke at the discussion.
Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy, the unparallel leader of all Indian politics, who had dedicated his entire life to ensure the welfare of the people by upholding democracy, died at a Beirut hotel in Lebanon on December 5 in 1963. He was alone in the hotel suite at the time of his death.
Different political and socio-cultural organizations had taken elaborate programmes marking his death anniversary. The programmes include placing of wreaths at the grave of the great leader, discussions, Qurankhwani, milad and doamahfil.
Speaking at the discussion of Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote, Dr Hasan Mahmud said that Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy struggled for establishing rule of law and democracy throughout his life. The nation remembers with respect his contributions in flourishing democracy and improving the socio-economic condition of the people of this region, he added.
The speakers discussed form the eventful life of Suhrawardy and said that his life and works will encourage the future generation to devote themselves in people’s welfare.
