Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate Bangabandhu Multipurpose Hall of Chattogram Press Club at 10am today (Thursday) from Ganobhaban through videoconferencing.
Bangabandhu Hall, sponsored by First Security Bank Limited, is the only multipurpose convention hall in the country. Chattogram Press Club, the first press club of the country established in 1962, decided to construct the hall several years back.
To remember Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the convention hall has been named after him.
Deputy Commissioner, Chattogram, Mohammed Ilias, along with leaders of the journalist community, visited the hall on Wednesday to see the preparations for the inauguration ceremony in person. Mohammed Ilias said, “Adequate preparations have been taken and the convention hall is all set for the inauguration.” Kalim Sarwar, president of Chattogram Press Club, said, “Today will be a very important day for the history of Chattogram Press Club.”
Shuklal Das, general secretary of Chattogram Press Club, said, “The journalist community is very happy that the hall is opening on Thursday.”
Shahid Ul Alam, executive committee member Chattogram Press Club and former president of Chattogram Union of Journalists said, “Chattogram Press Club has always played a vital role for upholding the spirit of liberation. The hall has been named after Bangabandhu as a token of honour to the father of the nation.”
Chattogram Press Club said that Bangabandhu Multipurpose Hall has been constructed at a cost of Tk 5 crore.
The hall has been equipped with all modern facilities including AC, sound system, light system and most modern seating arrangement.
