Md Azharul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bandar police station in Narayanganj, was removed temporarily from his post and closed to district police line on Monday.
He was closed over the Saturday night’s bullet exchange incident that killed a readymade garment worker and injured twenty others, said police superintendent office spokesman inspector Sazzad Roman, adding a three member probe committee headed by additional police super Abdullah Al Mamun has been also formed to investigate into the matter.
Police sources claimed a team of police headed by sub-inspector Mohammad Ali on Saturday night went to Modonpur to nab warrantees. The team after detaining some accused locked into a bloody clash with locals, exchanging bullets, injuring one Ashekul Islam with bullet.
Bullet-injured Ashekul Islam who hailed from northern Lalmonirhat and worked at a local garments factory succumbed to injuries on Sunday night while the others are still undergoing treatment. Dr Asaduzzaman who conducted post mortem at Narayanganj General Hospital said that Ashik died of hemorrhage.
Bandar police had filed a criminal case stating that peoples attacked them triggering the clash.
In that case, the deceased Ashik is also an accused.
