The Green Planet Club of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), in association with the School of Environmental Science & Management, organized its flagship event and an award giving ceremony ‘Green Genius Season 2’ on Tuesday at the IUB Auditorium in Bashundhara, Dhaka.
The idea behind ‘Green Genius’ was to be able to encompass the young minds of the school, college and university to get them thinking about the environment friendly world.
Mr Shykh Seraj, agricultural activist, journalist and media personality present on the occasion as the chief guest. Dr Md Abdul Khaleque, dean, School of Environmental Science & Management, IUB, chaired the ceremony. Professor Md Aminul Karim, dean, School of Business, IUB and Professor Joynal Abedin also spoke during the event.
Tahsin Rahman from IUB became the champion in the university category and Fairuj Samia from South Breeze School was crowned champion in the School and College category. Both of them were were presented with certificate, crest and BDT 25,000 as recognition for their remarkable achievement.
Seraj, in his speech, shared experiences relevant to environmental issues and asked students to help people through their innovation. He also stated that its time to do more research at the university level and submit those innovations to related institution for creating a livable world.
Dr Khaleque, urged the audience to be very careful to conserve the natural resources specially water. He informed that 80% of ovarian cancer causes from talcum powder. The Dean went on to congratulate all participants for their brilliant ideas explored in project competition.
Professor Aminul Karim called for sustainability of the country and urged upon all concerned, to use collective power in flourishing new ideas and materializing them to overcome new challenges. “Business without the concept of social welfare cannot be a venture at any given point in time,” Professor Karim emphasized.
Dr K Ayaz Rabbani, head, Department of Environmental Science, IUB delivered vote of thanks to draw the event to its conclusion. Deans, senior members of the faculty & administration and a full house of students attended the programme.
