Students of Social Welfare and Research Institute of Dhaka University on Tuesday protested the attempt to kidnap their fellow Sithi Kibria. They demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the culprits.
They made the demand at a human chain formed at the foot of Raju Memorial Sculpture on the campus on Tuesday.
Sithi Kibria, the third year student, was allegedly assaulted on January 2 by former president of Lalmonirhat’s Hatibanda upazila Chhatra League Tafiuzzaman Juwel, who is also an officer of food warehouse, and his associate. They tried to kidnap the female student of DU from Dohi Teesta Barrage area of the upazila. Later, the victim’s family filed a case against Juwel and his associates. “It is unfortunate that when we tried to file case against the culprits, the police made delay. In the meantime, the accused including the main accused are being able to escape”, said speakers. More than 100 students of the department took part in the human chain with placards.
