Several allegations of corruption and irregularities have been raised against a union parishad member of Pirgachha. Locals have submitted a written complaint to this effect with the respective authorities.
It has been known from the complaint that Motiar Rahman, UP member of ward no.8 of number 9 Kandi union of Pirgachha upazila has been breaking the law in a number of ways. He took ten thousand taka from expatriate Abdur Rahman Akalu of Teyani Moniram village in order to engage 20 labourers from the 40-day Karmosrijon program for seven whole days to do private yard work in his house. He issued VGD card in the name of Minara Begum, wife of an expat, and gave her two houses under the Jomi Ache Ghor Nai-2 program. Even though Taj Mia, a labourer for this program was in Dhaka and absent from the project, Rahman misappropriated the fund in his name. When contacted, accused UP member Motiar Rahman admitted to the same.
Kandi UP Chairman Nazrul Islam Khan confirmed hearing about the complaint. Upazila project implementation executive Abdul Aziz said, once investigated the truth behind the allegations were proved.
Speaking to Bangladesh Post, upazila executive officer Fauzul Kabir confirmed receiving the complaint and instructing the project implementation executive.
