More than 50,000 people, majority belonging to ethnic communities living at more than 500 hilly hamlets, located at hard-to-reach areas under Baghaichhari upazila in Rangamati have been suffering deeply for drinking water.
Chairman of Baghaichhari upazila Boroh Hrishi Chakma and some other people of the area said these. Public representatives attributed the crisis to unplanned massive shifting cultivation, depletion of forests and inadequate rainfall dried up natural sources including cannels, fountains and waterfalls those led the underground water level to go down more intensifying the crisis more sensitive. Admitting the existing water scarcity in the remote upazila, UNO of Baghaichhari Mafidul Alam said that step is on the contact donor agency to solve the problem for the sake of suffering hilly unfortunate people.
