Abahani Limited sink newcomers Bashundhara Kings by 3-1 to lift the Federation Cup trophy for the third successive time at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka on Friday.
Abahani’s Nigerian forward Sunday Chizoba Nwadialu’s brace at50th and 79th minute was enough to seal the title for his team.
In the first half,both teams were cautious as goal scoring chances were few and far between at either end.
Bashundhara kings had a great chance in the 5th minute to take the lead but Kyrgyz midfielder
Baktyiar Duishobekov headed the ball over the bar from Colindres’s corner.
Finally, Bashundhara’s Costa Rican World Cup star Deniel Colinderes gave kings lead in
the 20th minute following
Alamgir’s pass.
Abahani had a great chance to level the score line five minutes later,but thanks to goalkeeper Mitul Hasan who brilliantly saved Sunday’s powerful shot.
Kings went into the half time with 1-0 lead.
In the second half time Abahani started to play attacking football as result in the50th minute Sunday cancelled out Colindres’s goal and made it 1-1.
In 79th minutegave Abahani the lead. Two minuteslater Belfort made in three and that was enough to win their hat-trick title.
Abahani scored 11 goals in this tournament and conceded just eight.Sunday became the top-
scorer of the championship with six goals.
Abahani went into the final as favorites having beaten Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club 4-2 in second semifinal match.
