Do you love listening to Christmas carols, music and watching movies based on Christmas? And do you expect Santa Claus to fill your stockings with gifts? Christmas for many is a time to spend with family and friends. This is the time to look back in fondness on the year that we have had.
Children and adults alike are in love with Christmas decorations, crafts and obviously the foods. From stuffing the turkey to hanging up stockings, some of the favorite festive pastimes have been part of the season for hundreds of years. The red and green colored Christmas tree with colorful balls, bells and socks decorated in it, the ribbons, sequins, bows, and lights all are very merry and joyous.
Bangladesh is a land of secularism and we celebrate every religious festivity with equal fervor and grandeur. Make your home the most festive it can be, enjoy the eve with your family and friends. Engage in all the festive activities and adore how magical everything feels with the twinkling lights and the gleeful atmosphere.
Decorating the Tree
One of the best parts about Christmas eve is the dazzling Christmas tree in the living room decked out in lights, garlands,
twinkling lights and ornaments. On the top sometimes sits a fairy or a big star. Traditionally an evergreen tree like a fir or pine is used. Another tradition is buying a small elf doll and putting it on a shelf and it is believed that the elf checks everything out.
Hosting a party
Throwing a Christmas party is about creating meaningful memories. It’s all about having a great cozy evening with your nearest and dearest. Look for holiday albums from your favorite contemporary singers, and create a mix-and-match music list that pairs upbeat selections with more mellow tunes, have snacks and some drinks. Or you can even turn your gathering into a donation or charity event. It’s a wonderful way to add to the warmth and joy of the season.
Baking cakes and cookies
The holiday season is full of delicious treats and cookies which are basically the show stoppers of Christmas. Whether they’re baked for a party, Santa (with a glass of milk!) or just for a cozy night in by the fireplace, there’s always a reason to whip up a batch of cake and cookies for the eve. Christmas cakes are made many different ways, but generally they are variations of the classic fruitcake. They can be light, dark, moist, dry, heavy, spongy, leavened, unleavened, etc. They are made in many different shapes, with frosting, glazing, a dusting of confectioner’s sugar or plain. And these pretty little cookies are just as fun to decorate as they are to eat.
Cooking for Christmas
You can make a traditional meal that can consist of fish soup, mushroom soup, cabbage soup, lentil soup, pea soup or fried fish served with potato salad. You could even cook a show-stopping roast turkey (or chicken if you like the latter) with grilled vegetables and potatoes.
Beyond the delicacies and the tree, Christmas can’t be complete without humming the carols. Adding to the joy of Christmas, often people gather in front of the decorated tree and sing carols all night long. Not only at homes, during Christmas eve, the groups of carol singers which consist of both adults and children visit every house in the Christian locality.
Whether it’s family gatherings or just getting your friends together to decorate your Christmas tree, the glory of Christmas is all around us. Wishing you all a very merry Christmas and let the lights guide you home.
