Police in separate drives arrested eight drug traders along with a huge quantity of Indian contraband phensidyl, yaba tablets and heroin from Manikganj Sadar and Saturia upazila area on Wednesday night. Police also seized a private car.
The arrestees are Md. Kalam, 35, son of Monir Hossain of Sobujbag in Dhaka, Mohammed Ali, 45, son of Hasem Mia of Maniknagor in Dhaka, Rubel Chokider, 34, son of Khalil Chokider of Chamta village under Noriya upazila in Shoriatpur. They are arrested in Manikganj Sadar.
The other arrestees who were arrested from Saturia are Sohel Rana, 32, Helal Uddin, 27, Sawpna Akter, 20, Rahela Khatun, 65, and Shoriful Islam, 19. They are inhabitants of different area in Saturia upazila of Manikganj district.
Rifat Rahman Shamim, Police Super of Manikganj, in a press briefing at his office said that acting on a tip-off, police had came to know that, huge quantities of phensidyl was going to supply in the capital city through Dhaka-Aricha Highway.
Different teams of the Sadar thana police conducted massive raid led by Inspector (Investigation) Mohammed Hanif Sarker and Inspector Nur Mohammed (Operation) along with forces took position and setup check post in different area including Manikganj bus stand on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway. Later, police arrested them.
The phensidyle loaded Private car was going to Capital city Dhaka from Chuadanga district, the SP informed.
On the other hand, Saturia thana police arrested 5 suspected drug traders, in an anti-drug drive at different parts in the police station on Wednesday night. During the period, police also recovered 10 grams of heroin 300 pieces yaba tablets from their position.
