The Election Commission (EC) on Friday, the second day of hearing appeals against nominations cancellation, declared the candidature of 78 aspirants valid and turned down 65.
Besides, the commission kept its decisions pending over seven other petitions.
The EC, the appellate authority, heard a total of 150 petitions on Friday.
On the second day of EC’s hearing, 21 BNP-backed candidates got back the validity of their candidatures.
During the hearing, EC declared invalid the candidature of Jatiya Party leader ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader for Patuakhai-1 while Jatiya Party candidate Masud Parvez Sohel Rana got back his candidature for Barishal-2.
The EC also declared the candidature of Oikyafront-backed aspirant Dr Reza Kibria valid for Habiganj-1.
Besides, allegations challenging the nominations of Awami League candidate Pankaj Debnath for Barishal-4 and Abdullah Al Islam Jakob for Bhola-4 were also dismissed by EC.
A total of 543 petitions were filed with the EC challenging the decisions of returning officers over rejection and acceptance of nomination papers submitted to contest th11 the general election slated for December 30.
