Four candidates were detained for fraud during the undergraduate admission test in 2018-19 academic sessions at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU).
One other candidate was detained after the ‘C’ unit admission test began on Friday at 10am.
Based on information provided by the detained student, the remaining three were arrested.
The detainees have been identified as Sudipta Bahura, son of Jagdish Bahura of Bahadurpur village under Rajior upazila in Madaripur, Suvas Posta, son of Gandhi Posta of Aryukandi village of the same upazila; Ujjal Bahura, Son of Haridas Ghosh of Konai Vita village at Kotalipara in Gopalganj; Mithun Biswas, son of Mahadev Biswas of Laxanda village at Kotalipara; and Ashit Chowdhury, son of Motin Chowdhury of Vennabari village under Kanda upazila in Kotalipara.
The fraud group still remains under investigation of the university administration.
University vice-chancellor Prof Dr Khondoker Nasiruddin said that due to the strict scrutiny of the university administration, the members of the fraud chain had managed to take in devices into the exam hall but were unable to use it. The VC also said that they will be punished after the investigation is complete.
