Naval Police and Bangladesh Coast Guard detained at least 46 fishermen in 24 hours for violating the ongoing ban on Hilsa fishing after raiding in different rivers of Barisal.
The drives were launched in Kirtankhola, Kalabadar, and Meghna rivers from Wednesday to Thursday.
Naval police and fisheries department jointly conducted the drive, said Bimal Chandra Das, fisheries Officer (Hilsa) of Barishal. Detainees were handed over to Mobile Court of Executive Magistrate under district administration. The court will decide on their sentence, he added.
The 22-day ban on catching and selling hilsa for safe spawning of the fish started on October 7.
