Prof Syed Manzoorul Islam, Prof Jatin Sarker and Pias Majid have won ‘BRAC Bank-Samakal Shahitya Puroshkar 2017’. They received the award at an event at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital on Friday evening.
Daily Samakal and BRAC Bank have been conferring the award since 2011. This year the prize was given in three categories.
Syed Manzoorul Islam won the award for his book ‘Ekattor O Onnanya Golpo’ in poetry and novel category, while Jatin Sarker for his book ‘Muktobuddhir Chorai-Utrai’ in the essay, autobiography, travel story and translation category, and Pias Majid for his book ‘Monishar Mukhorekha’ in ‘Humayun Ahmed Young Writer’ category. National Professor Dr. Anisuzzaman was present at the event as the chief guest, while publisher of Daily Samakal A. K. Azad, its Acting Editor Mustafiz Shafi and Managing Director & CEO of BRAC Bank Limited Selim R. F. Hussain attended the ceremony, among others.
The winner of ‘Humayun Ahmed Young Writer’ received Tk. 1 lakh as the prize money, while the other winners received Tk. 2 lakh. They also received the crest and citation.
A panel of jury comprising Ahmed Rafiq, Hasan Azizul Haque, Helal Hafiz and Anwara Syed Haq selected the winning books.
