A team of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained three trucks, including one truck which was laden with government OMS rice, at Sarail upazila in Brahmanbaria.
The BGB revealed the information in a press briefing on Tuesday morning.
It was said that the government rice was being smuggled from the open market sale (OMS) among the poor.
On Monday night, a group of 25 BGB battalions seized nearly 300 sacks of rice from the truck at Kalikchal market in the upazila. Meanwhile, truck driver Rabiul Alam Shahin, helper Masum Mia and worker Wahid were also arrested.
The detainees said they were going to Chalarughat in Habiganj from Julhas traders at Gulhas Meyer shop in Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Golam Kabir, commander of 25 BGB Battalion, said that the price of the seized rice is 6 lakh 75 thousand taka. The matter was reported to the Deputy Commissioner. Task Force will investigate this matter.
