The only permanent cattle market at Gabtoli and 19 other makeshift ones will officially be open in the capital ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha to ensure smooth trading of sacrificial cattle during the Eid.
Of the total 20 markets 13 are under Dhaka South City Corporation area and seven in North City Corporation area, said Chief estate officer of Dhaka South City Corporation Kamrul Hasan Chowdhury while talking to Bangladesh Post on Monday.
Apart from the permanent market at Gabtoli under the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) will set up some temporary markets and DNCC will also set up a few temporary markets like the previous years.
The authorities of the two city corporations have floated tender notifications to lease out the cattle markets said Chief estate officer of Dhaka South City Corporation Kamrul Hasan Chowdhury while talking to Bangladesh Post on Monday.
According to the city corporation officials, the cattle markets of DSCC will be located at Meradia Bazar at Khilgaon, Moitri Shangha ground adjoining Railgate Bazar at North Shahjahanpur, Jigatala-Hajaribagh ground beside Leather Engineering College, Rahmatganj Playground at Lalbagh, Shyampur Balurmath at Kadamtoli, Sadek Hossain Khoka Ground at Dholaikhal, Dhupkhola East and Club ground, Balurmath adjoining Brothers Union at Gopibagh as well as the free spaces adjoining it, Kamrangirchar Islam Chairmanbari, Postogola Shashanghat, Donia College playground at Jatrabari and the free spaces adjoining to Kamalpur Stadium near the Kamlapur Railway Station.
The cattle markets of DNCC will be located in the Bashundhara residential area near Khilkhet’s 300-Feet Road, Bosila Police Lines free spaces near the Mohammadpur Intellectual graveyard, Mirpur DOHS, Sector 15 of Uttara Residential Model Town as well as the free spaces at Khilkhet Banarupa Housing, Eastern Housing in Mirpur Section 6 and between Ashian City Housing and Bhatara.
Last year, DSCC earned Tk 8.54 and DNCC earned Tk 19.60 crore from leasing the cattle market places.
In last three fiscal years, two city corporations earned a total of Tk 68.73 crore while DSCC earned Tk 15.88 crore and DNCC earned Tk 52.85 crore from the cattle market lease.
