A mechanic and his helper of an auto-rice mill were killed in boiler explosion of the mill at Bagadoba village under Melandah upazila in Jamalpur on Sunday morning.
The deceased were Abdul Karim, 45, of Sherpur district, and Mintu, 35, son of Nawsher Ali of Lakkhipur village under Nayanagar union in Melandah upazila.
Karim had been working as a mechanic at Keya Auto Rice Mill belonging to one Abul Kalam Azad of Bagadoba village while Mintu was his helper.
At about 10.00am on Sunday, Karim along with his helper
Mintu was engaged in operating
the rice mill when the boiler of the mill was functioning, said Azizur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Melandah Police Station.
Minutes after operating the mill, the boiler exploded with a big ban, leaving Karim and Mintu dead on the spot, said the OC.
Excessive stream pressure in the boiler might be the reason behind the explosion, he said.
The bodies were recovered from
the spot and sent them to Jamalpur General Hospital morgue for
autopsy.
Meanwhile, soon after the incident the owner of the mill went into hiding, added the OC.
