A two-day cultural festival, the first of its kind, was held in Rangpur and Gaidbandha on Friday and Saturday.
In Rangpur, discussants at the inaugural session on Friday put importance on attracting the young generation toward our own culture to help them becoming enlightened citizens with human values.
The Cultural Festival- 2018 was organised by the district administration under auspices of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs on the Public Library ground in the city.
Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib inaugurated the cultural festival by cutting ribbon with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Rabiul Islam in the chair. Additional Police Super Abu Maruf Hasan, former general secretary of District Shilpokola Academy Tauhidur Rahman Tutul, noted cultural personalities Dr Mofizul Islam Mantu and Monwar Hossain and District Cultural Affairs Officer Nujhat Tabassum spoke at the function. Popular local artistes, poets and writers performed modern, patriotic and folk songs, Rabindra and Nazrul sangeet, poetry recitation, single acting and dance and other cultural programmes were performed on the inaugural day.
In Gaibandha, Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad and local lawmaker Mahabub Ara Begum Gini formally inaugurated the festival at the auditorium of Zila Shilpakala Academy through igniting a candle as the chief guest. Additional Police Super Abdullah Al Faruk, General Secretary (GS) of Bangladesh Awami League, district unit, Abu Bakar Siddique, Mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon and GS of Gaibandha Press Club Abu Zafor Sabu were present there as special guests.
Deputy Commissioner Gautam Chandra Pal presided over the inaugural ceremony while District Cultural Officer (DCO) Alamgir Kabir made a welcome speech.
A rally was brought out from Independence Square and ended in front of Zila Shilpakala Academy after parading the main roads of the town.
