A Manikganj court on Tuesday placed two accused police officers on a six-day remand each in a case filed over the gang-rape of a young woman after keeping her confined to Saturia Dak Bungalow in the district.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Golam Sarower granted the remand after Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Saturia Police Station, also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court with a 10-day remand plea.
Earlier on Tuesday, the duo were arrested a day after a probe panel formed to investigate the incident primarily found proof of the rape allegation. A team of Saturia thana police arrested them from a remote area in Dhamrai of Dhaka.
The police officers are Sub-Inspector (SI) Sekendar Hossain and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mazharul Islam.
They were accused in the case filed by a 20-year-old woman from Mirzaganj upazila in Patuakhali on Monday, three days after the rape incident. She lives with her father in Ashulia in Dhaka.
The two policemen were withdrawn from the police station. Rifat Rahman Shamim, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Manikganj, at a press briefing at his office on Tuesday noon said that they had taken the complaint of the victim seriously and the investigation is going on. None will be spared, even if they are policemen.
