Two suspected bandits including a gang leader were killed in a gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the Sundarbans under Shyamnagar upazila in Satkhira range on Thursday morning.
The deceased were identified as Saheb Ali, 36, chieftain of ‘Saheb Ali Bahini’ and his associate Habibur Rahman, 28. On secret information, a team of the RAB raided in Kalagachhia area in the morning, said RAB-6 Lt Commander Zahidul Kabir. Sensing their presence, the gang opened fire on the RAB men, forcing them to fire back that triggered the gunfight. After an-hour-long gunfight, the pirates retreated. Later, the team arrested two bullet-hit robbers and recovered three firearms and 32 bullets from the spot.
The injured were taken to Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctors declared them dead.
RAB constables Arif and Shakil were also injured in the encounter, he added.
