A High Court division bench on Monday ordered to take necessary measures against the ongoing price hike of all types of medicines in the country.

The Director General of the Directorate of Drug Administration has been asked to implement this order.

At the same time, the High Court has also issued a rule seeking to know why the inaction of the authorities to prevent the continuous increase in the price of medicines will not be declared illegal.

The court has also ordered to stop the sale of unauthorized imported drugs.

A High Court Division Bench comprising Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice M Atabullah passed the order on Monday.

The Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) filed a writ attaching a report published in a daily newspaper entitled ‘Drug prices increased by 7 to 140 percent in two weeks’.

According to the report, in two months, various companies in the country have rampantly increased the prices of their manufactured drugs.

Antibiotic tablets, insulin and injections for diabetic patients have been increased the most.

A report of the production cost increases and sales revenue accounts of various companies showed that the inflation was abnormal.

As the excuse for this unusual price increase, the companies blame the devaluation of Taka against USD, and the increase in the price of raw materials in the international market.

Formulate policy for transfer of private institution teachers

Another HC division bench ordered the authorities concerned to formulate transfer policies for teachers working in private educational institutions of the country, within 3 months.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque gave the order on Monday.

The High Court disposed of the writ brought seeking the formulation of the policy for the transfer of nearly five lakh MPO- affiliated teachers of the 38,000 private educational institutions of the country.

Hundreds of teachers of MPO-affiliated educational institutions in different districts of the country filed the writ in the High Court seeking directions to formulate transfer policy.

Advocate Mohammad Siddique Ullah Miah, the lawyer of the writ petitioners told the journalists that , “Though the personnel structure of private teachers of 1995, 2013 and 2018 mentions the formulation of policies for the transfer of teachers, the concerned authorities did not take any actions do so. As the formulation of the policy was delayed, the High Court on Monday directed for the formulation of the policy within three months.”

“Through this verdict, the long-standing hopes and demands of the teachers have been fulfilled. We hope that the concerned parties will follow the court’s verdict and formulate policies quickly,” he said.
