Senior police officers on Thursday urged the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to establish a separate university for police to develop the professional skill of the police officers.

They also demanded the recruitment of police officers on deputation in Bangladesh embassies abroad.

They placed the proposals during a closed-door meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday.

The meeting was held on the second day of Police Week-2024.

Meeting sources said a senior police officer raised the issue of appointing police officers in foreign missions saying, “If police officers are posted at foreign missions, they will be able to provide legal assistance with police clearance certificates to Bangladeshi citizens living in those countries.”

They also demanded for creating new posts and eliminating promotion tailbacks.

Senior police officers also demanded the recruitment of police officers on deputation to various institutions within the country.

They also demanded for ensuring the security of MRT Rail and other important installations of the country by deploying adequate police personnel.

They also demanded the government for setting up DNA labs, providing adequate vehicles and holding training sessions for combatting cybercrimes.

When asked about the meeting, a senior police official on condition of anonymity said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina listened to the proposals patiently. She assured that she will consider the issues logically.
