Country’s film industry has been passing through a critical juncture due to various reasons. Considering the issue seriously, the government took various steps to protect the industry. However, no initiative has brought any result yet, according to media reports.

As our film makers failed to make good quality films, people do not go to cinemas for watching movies now - a days. Besides, vulgar movies have also discouraged the audiences to visit the cinema halls in the last two decades. Such barren period of the film industry should go immediately as it is one of the oldest media in Bangladesh. Most owners have closed down their cinema halls. Many people who were the employees of cinema halls became jobless. As a result, directors, producers, actors, actresses, technicians and other people engaged in film making also became unemployed. Many of them are passing their days in subhuman condition.

If the film artistes, directors and technicians do not make quality movies to keep pace with global standard, our industry will not survive. But, we believe our cinemas surely can earn foreign recognition crossing the country’s frontiers if artistes, directors, technicians and producers have advanced trainings. Only then they can make quality movies using the talents they have.

The films showcase a very authentic story about the saga of real people. Sometimes, the fantasy film also takes us away into a world of imagination.

In the 1960s our film industry had been a glorious period when we saw people waiting for several months or a year to watch a movie with family and friends, because it was that kind of a film they would love to see together in the cinema.

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, understanding the impact of films on society, tabled a bill in the provincial assembly of the erstwhile East Pakistan for the formation of Film Development Corporation (FDC) in 1957 and in continuation to that, the FDC was established.

A film portrays the history of people, their lifestyle, and their tales of sorrows and happiness. Films play an outstanding role in depicting the life of people and their (people) thoughts. But, the fact is that many cinemas hall across the country were closed as the mass people had stopped going to cinemas.

Film is a powerful media than cinema to portray a country in the global arena. If we want to present our country with dignity before the world through cinema, we have to produce quality films. There is the necessity to create a favourable environment to make quality films.
