We are expressing extreme concern over the latest dangerous escalation between Iran and Israel, urging all sides to show restraint for the sake of humankind. We the people of Bangladesh want to see that all countries would play effective role in deescalating the Iran-Israel tension and stop the Israeli killings in Gaza.

We also call upon the global leaders to work in unison for peace, welfare of mankind and prosperity by shunning the path of war and confrontation. Bangladesh is respectful towards sovereignty and regional integrity according to the objectives and principles of the United Nations (UN).

War does not bring any good for any side, and Bangladesh believes in the principle of peace. When the world has been going through a global crisis and economic recession caused by Russia-Ukraine war, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the conflict between Israel and Gaza, the latest tension between Iran and Israel will deepen crisis further. According to a study, over 800 million people go to bed hungry globally, which are getting worsened due to the Russia-Ukraine and Palestine-Israel war.

So, the latest conflict between Israel and Iran starts adding salts to the wounds. We hope, all the countries that are supposed to play a role will immediately take effective measures to resolve the Iran-Israel tension and stop the indiscriminate killing of people in Gaza immediately.

We are never for war and we are always for peace. Iran launched a drone and missile attack on Israel Saturday evening, after pledging retaliation for a strike on its consular building in Syria that killed seven Revolutionary Guard members, two of them generals, according to foreign news agencies and newspapers. Iran said its attack came in response to a deadly April 1 air strike on Tehran’s consulate building in the Syrian capital Damascus that was widely blamed on Israel.

The unprecedented exchange, marking a major escalation between the two countries, has sparked renewed fears of a broader conflict, including the potential for an Israel counterstrike. So, we are counting on the regional states to solve the existing problems with political and diplomatic means.

The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres warned the international community against deeper descent into conflict, addressing the Security Council during a meeting over Iran’s weekend attack on Israel. Neither the region nor the world can afford more war.

It is clear to all that the Middle East is on the brink. The people of the region are confronting a real danger of a devastating full-scale conflict. Therefore, we think now is the time to defuse and de-escalate.

The rising tensions come against the backdrop of Israel’s six-month-old war against Palestinians in Gaza, which began after the Hamas group’s attack in Israel October 7. Israel’s retaliatory offensive has killed at least 33,729 people in Gaza, mostly women and children.

Since the start of the conflict, Iran-backed groups in Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen have carried out a flurry of attacks on Israeli and Western targets. It is time to step back from the brink.

It is vital to avoid any action that could lead to major military confrontations on multiple fronts in the Middle East. We are also calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, which experts warn is on the verge of famine. All parties must halt escalation and exercise maximum restraint. We are urging the international community to take urgent action to defuse the tension and de-escalate. We are also calling for maximum restraint.
