DJAB new president Alamgir, secretary Ahamed

Alamgir Hossain, Head of News of The Daily Shomoyer Alo, and Ahamed Ullah, Senior Reporter of The Bangladesh Post, have been elected as the new President and General Secretary, respectively, of the executive committee of the Defence Journalist Association of Bangladesh (DJAB) for the next two years (2024-2025).

The election of the DJAB executive committee was held at a restaurant in the capital on Tuesday (April 30, 2024) following the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

After the voting process, Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo, Chief Election Commissioner of the DJAB Election Management Committee and the President of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), officially announced the new committee. 

Two other election commissioners, Aktar Hossain, General Secretary of the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), and Muhammad Jahangir Alam, Vice President of the outgoing committee of DJAB, were present. 

Alamgir Hossain, the newly elected President, previously held the post of General Secretary of DJAB for two terms, while Ahamed Ullah, the newly elected General Secretary, previously held the post of Organising Secretary of DJAB. 

The other office-bearers of the 13-member DJAB Executive Committee, who have been elected for the next two years, are – Vice-President Tariqul Islam Masoom of Channel I, Joint Secretary Kazi Sohag of The Daily Manab Zamin, Organising Secretary Miraj Miju of Desh TV, Treasure Jamal Uddin of Bangla Tribune, Office Secretary Ismail Hossain Emu of The Daily Ajkaler Khobor, Publicity and Publication Secretary Kamal Hossain Talukdar of bdnews24.com, Training and Research Secretary Ali Asif Shawon of The Dhaka Tribune, Sports and Cultural Secretary Sazzad Mahmud Khan of The Daily Amader Somoy, and three executive members MM Badsha of Bangla TV, Rakibul Hasan of My Tv and Arifur Rahman Rabbi of The Business Post respectively.

Muhammad Jahangir Alam presided over the AGM. Almost all DJAB members attended the programme. Former president of DJAB Mamunur Rashid and several guests were present as observers in the election.
