All witnessed a massive stream of homebound people during the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims, this year. We had expressed apprehension over people’s sufferings during Eid journey.

However, overcoming all concern, Eid journey has become comparatively smooth and comfortable with cooperation of all. Gone are the days when Eid journeys were synonymous with chaos, overcrowded city’s Sadarghat launch terminal, Sayedabad, Gabtoli and Mahakhali bus terminals and   Kamalapur railway stations, endless queues, and exasperating delays.

We extend thanks to the government for its measures to ensure a hassle-free and safe journey for the home-goers during the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr. We also extended thanks and gratitude to all who worked hard to make the Eid journey comfortable.

Barring a few stray incidents of road crash on roads and highways and gridlock at some places, ferry ghats, the Eid holidaymakers went home without facing any trouble on the roads and highways as there was no traffic jam. A large number of people left city by road, waterway and rail during the Eid vacation.

There was a kind of feeling of worry that the people might have to face untold sufferings on roads and highways during Eid journey. But, the sincere efforts and cooperation of all concerned made this year’s Eid journey more comfortable than ever before removing all apprehensions.

Severe traffic gridlock on roads and highways and untold sufferings of people were common phenomena during the Eid journey in the previous years. But due to sincere steps taken by the present government, this time the Eid journey of holidaymakers was comfortable.

After five days of Eid and Pahela Baisakh vacation, offices, courts, banks and stock markets opened on Monday. The people are still returning to the capital after celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr.

On the occasion of Eid, April 10, 11, and 12 (Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday) were public holidays. After Eid, there was weekly holiday on Saturday, April 13, and Bengali New Year holiday on Sunday (April 14). As a result, employees enjoyed holidays from 10th to 14th April.City’s Sadarghat launch terminal, Sayedabad, Gabtoli and Mahakhali bus terminals and Kamalapur railway station are still seeing a huge crowd of homebound passengers as they are still leaving the capital to enjoy the post festival celebration at their village home with their near and dear ones. We also highly appreciate the authorities concerned for its round-the-clock hard work so that it has been possible to make this year’s Eid journey smooth and safe.

The road and highways, rail and waterways have been brought under well management to make people’s journey smooth that ended the sufferings of the holiday-makers. The government’s well management has made the Eid journey of the countrymen smooth and hassle-free this year.

We hope that the same service would be provided to the passengers during their return journey. All also should applaud the all officials and employees of the ministry, engineers of Department of Roads and Highways, leaders of transport owners and workers’ associations, law enforcement agencies, administration and journalists for making their utmost efforts in making the Eid journey comfortable.

We believe all concerned will continue making their efforts in operating vehicles on roads and highways and launches and vessels on waterways with maintaining discipline and remain cautious at highest level to avert any kind of accidents.
