Amid the ongoing conflict between the Arakan Army insurgents and junta forces in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, 18 more members of Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) and military have taken shelter in Bangladesh on Tuesday.

Shariful Islam, public relations officer (PRO) at the BGB headquarters, said, “Two personnel entered through the Rejupara border in the morning, followed by ten through the Jamchari border.

“Later in the afternoon, one crossed through the Baishfari border, and five more entered via the Jamchari border around 4:30pm.

“The exact breakdown of the military and BGP members among the group is yet to be determined,” he added.

All 18 individuals have currently been kept in BGB custody at Naikhongchhari headquarters.

With this, a total of 34 officials have sought refuge inside Bangladesh in the last three days.

Previously, on 30 March, three members of the Myanmar Army took refuge through the Naikhongchhari border.

Prior to that, on 11 March, an additional 177 personnel from the Border Guard Police (BGP) and army sought shelter.

Before this, 330 individuals from Myanmar fled to Bangladesh in several rounds. On 15 February, 330 people were repatriated back to Myanmar.
